Pirate Ship Battles is a sequel to critically acclaimed DChoc Cafe Sea battle (on which I also worked in similar roles), adding a strategy game with roleplaying elements like characters and a backstory around spiced up version of classic battlefleet-gameplay.

"Blackbeard was the most feared pirate on the Caribbean, evil to the bottom of his soul, ruthless like the Devil himself. They say that he was a master of fabulous treasures and terrible secrets and many are those who sailed to challenge him, seeking to take his infinite wealth. None returned. Fifty years have passed since Blackbeard's death. Yet some men carry souls too black to rest in peace and are doomed to roam the earth and sea endlessly. Some say that Blackbeard was so evil that the Devil himself cast him out of the Hell. Some say that he was already cursed when he was born, condemned to haunt the seas for all eternity. But all agree that every ten years the ghost of Blackbeard sails for the Caribbean. His black ship appears from mist, riding upon screaming storm winds, with thunder crackling in the air. He comes seeking for a maiden, a Pirate Princess, an addition to his court of pale undead brides." |
Intro-text: Drum pulses in the air around the island. Signs of sinister pagan gods are carved on the cliffs and heavy stench hangs beneath the mangroves. Strange, clumsy figures hulk in the mist. And then a fleet of war-canoes appears from the shadows.
Victory-text: A strange group limps out of the forest, flies swarming at their heel. Their leader raises his hand in a sign of friendship. "Cap'n, they are zombies", whispers someone.

"Call me... uh... Ishmael. Methinks. Memory kinda fuzzy."
"Shouldna 'ave shot that albatross. Aft' that, things go very wrong. We be stuck inna dead calm. Crew say is me fault, we be cursed. Nuh food. Nuh water. But we couldna die. Or did we? S'pose we did, but we nuh lay still like them normal dead."
"One 'undred days we be sailin'. Counted 'em meself."
"Then we see this island. Them 'eadhunters come, capture us like we be an'mals. 'Zumbi for working!', them say. Do us strange stuff: now nuh can see nuthin, plus me head feel very small. An' we be forced to work without sleep, all day, all nite."
"Thanks for rescuin' us, sir. We nuh longer slaves! We free zumbies! Sail wit you, sir."

Description: Story won't tell whether Long John's nickname refers to his tall build or to his favourite underpants. Known as the most foul-mouthed pirate on seven seas, he makes up for his dim wit with bragging and swear-words.
Hail:
"Arrr, well, if that aint the most pitiful fleet I've ever seen! And what kinda scurvy dog they call their captain? Blast those powder monkeys away!"
Sink ship:
"Hah! Little bilge-rats, we be makin' shark baits out of ye!"
"Cap'n, tonight ye miserable swabs be sleepin' in Davy Jones' locker."
"In me years 'n years o' piratin', I ne'er seen such pitiful blaggards!"
Lose ship:
"Begad! Ye makin' me spill me grog!"
"Shiver me timbers! You must be kidding me!"
"Bilge-water and bloody whether! Impossible!"
Lose battle:
"Begad! What trickery be this? I will follow you, lass, fo' now, and there better be some proper plunder at the end of the road! Aye, ye hear."

Description: Don Goldtooth likes to carry his wealth with him, preferrably around his neck, fingers, and, as his name suggests, in his mouth. He's not ashamed to admit that he's in the pirating business for money.
Hail:
"Yah be trespassin di area of dem Don Goldtooth's rude bwoys. Time di go down. Nuh odda way."
Sink ship:
"Ouch! Mon, dat gotta HURT."
"Jus leave us di bling, gather your fleet and get back home, will yah?"
"Don't yah mess wit di bad man!"
Lose ship:
"Mon! Dat weh mi favourite ship! Yah makin mi angry!"
"Ya dutty dog! Stop rompin' wit me or yah is in deeeep trouble."
"Is nuh possible! Someone a put Obeah pon mi!"
Lose battle:
"Aright, mon, weh be strikin down dem colors. Dem seh dat ya is looking fa di Blackbeard's treasure. Mi be honored to follow ya on ya quest, fa a suitable percentage of di treasure, a true."

Description: De Gramont, a gentleman by the calling, a pirate by the trade, gained knighthood back in France, before setting sail for Caribbean. Only a few men can resist him in a duel with a rapier and no lady can resist him on a dancefloor.
Hail:
"Monsieur, I cannot allow You to cross my way like this. I must ask You to prepare Your crew for surrender - or death. Ze choice is Yours, sir. Bonne chance."
Sink ship:
"Tres bien. You still 'ave ze chance to surrender."
"Monsieur Prince, there is no point in wasting Your fleet in a 'opeless battle."
"Voilá. I 'ave warned You again and again."
Lose ship:
"Ce n'est pas grave. Certain losses are ze price for ze ultimate victory."
"Pas mal. Now You are showing skills of a captain."
"A lucky day for You, monsieur!"
Lose battle:
"Felicitations! I salute ze Prince of Buccaniers. I would be 'onoured to join Your cause. Next You need ze pieces of a special map to locate ze Blackbeard´s island. If I may suggest, You might inquire 'Enry Morgan about that."
